Byzantijnse Amfora

Een authentieke Byzantijnse amfora (met certificaat), vermoedelijk daterend uit de 7e eeuw na Christus, afkomstig uit een onderwatervondst (scheepswrak) in de oostelijke Middellandse Zee.

Dit prachtige object is vervaardigd uit gebakken klei en vertoont de kenmerkende langgerekte vorm van de Byzantijnse handelsamforen, met twee stevige handgrepen en een smalle hals. De buitenzijde draagt duidelijke sporen van eeuwenlange onderdompeling: lichte erosie, kalkafzettingen en een natuurlijk zee-patina tastbare getuigen van haar eeuwenoude maritieme geschiedenis.

Amforen als deze werden in de Byzantijnse tijd gebruikt voor het transport van wijn, olijfolie of graan tussen de havens van het rijk. Dit exemplaar is een bijzonder overblijfsel van die bloeiende handel en vormt een uniek verzamelobject voor liefhebbers van archeologie en maritiem erfgoed.

This beautiful piece is made of fired clay and displays the characteristic elongated form of Byzantine trade amphorae, with two sturdy handles and a narrow neck. The surface shows clear signs of centuries-long submersion gentle erosion, calcium deposits, and a natural marine patina all authentic traces of its ancient maritime history.

Amphorae like this were used throughout the Byzantine Empire to transport wine, olive oil, or grain between its bustling ports. This example is a remarkable survivor of that trade and a rare collectible for enthusiasts of archaeology and maritime history.
