Een oud en zeldzaam verdwenen volksgebruik uit de regio van Brabant, is het zagemanneke. Het stond op de toog, in de kast of op tafel en kon worden gebruikt om aan te geven dat het ook voor de laatste klant tijd was om naar huis te gaan of om aan te geven dat het tijd was om een verhaal af te ronden. Zolang de tuimelaar in beweging is kan het biertje nog opgedronken worden of het verhaal nog worden verteld, staat het stil dan gaat het café sluiten of men moest het (langdradige) verhaal stoppen.   Jammer genoeg is bij dit exemplaar het gewicht niet meer juist in balans. maar nog steeds mooi decoratief

An old and rare folk custom from the Brabant region that has disappeared is the zagemanneke. It stood on the counter, in the cupboard or on the table and could be used to indicate that it was time for the last customer to go home or to indicate that it was time to end a story. As long as the tumbler is moving, the beer can still be drunk or the story can still be told, if it stands still then the café will close or the (long-winded) story had to be stopped.  Unfortunately, the weight of this type is no longer correctly balanced. but still beautifully decorative
